Happiness Tool :
Forgiveness
If you really want to be free and
powerful, you
have to drop your old grievances.
That means
forgiving.
I won’t lie to you, forgiveness can be difficult,
especially when someone wronged you in a
significant way. On top of that, as a culture, we
have a lot of mental blocks on forgiveness.
Forgiving someone doesn’t mean you condone
their actions. It’s easy to think the only way
for
justice to be served is to refuse to forgive the
other person so they keep suffering for their
deeds, especially if they haven’t even
apologized or asked for forgiveness. However,
the reality is that the other person’s suffering
buys you nothing. The harm has already been
done. The crucial thing is to help YOU stop
suffering. Ironically, forgiveness is the way to
make that happen.24
It doesn’t mean you condone what happened
or forget it. It doesn’t mean you set yourself
up for the same thing to happen again later. It
just means you release its power over you.
